Langley School's Crossroads Building Wins Excellence in Construction Award | McLean, VA

Focal Point of the Langley School Campus Recognized for Excellence

Woody Crosby-Piszczek and Adriana Amaya Perdomo accepted the ABC Chesapeake Shores Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards at the ceremony at the Hotel Preserve Arundel Mills.

CWC was recently awarded with the Excellence in Construction Award from ABC Chesapeake Shores Chapter. We provided preconstruction and construction services and Capital Project Management was the Owner’s Rep for the Langley School project, located in McLean, VA, with the goal to build additional educational spaces that foster an improved learning environment for both students and faculty. The Crossroads Building, a new three-level 33,570 sf academic structure, serves as the focal point of the Langley School campus and is now home to Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 5th grade students. Through the implementation of advanced construction technology, continual school engagement, and high attention to detail, the Crossroads building was delivered in the Fall of 2022 and provides a unique space that is adaptable to the school’s needs for generations to come.

The project has been significant for Langley in many ways. It is a campus hub, a gathering place and the focal point of our campus center.

The unique triangular geometry of the building maximizes material usage in the given footprint.

Designed Using Unique Triangular Geometry

Designed by CGS Architects, the Crossroads Building has several features that provide aesthetic appeal with the functionality that is needed for an active campus. The design team also incorporated a wide variety of color and pattern selections for the finishes in the building, from Grassy Meadow Green resilient flooring to Turquoise porcelain tile, and Sunray Yellow Phenolic Wall Paneling. These selections contributed to the overall design intent of making the learning environment conducive to young imaginative minds.

The sloped roofs with clearstory windows invite an abundance of natural light throughout the building.

The building has a multipurpose room and music room on the lower level, Pre-K classrooms on the main level, and 5th graders on the Upper Level. The building comes equipped with several breakout rooms, flex classrooms, a tech lab, and reading room. Extensive storm infrastructure, including a new underground storm chamber system, was utilized in and around the building.

Congratulations to all project partners for winning the ABC Chesapeake Excellence in Construction Award for this new building on Langley School’s Campus, including: Jon Fox, Eric Van Why, Adriana Amaya Perdomo, Woody Crosby-Piszczek, Alex Bruhn, Justo Rojas, Shehzad Farooqi, Richard Grant, Ron Spriggs, Wayne Tobiassen, and Pat McCrary. The Crossroads Building is a great example of how a building can become the physical manifestation of an educational program and create a vibrant setting that gathers, connects, and changes.
