Partner & CFO Retires After 33 Years with CWC
Celebrating Joanne Sherwood’s Retirement
While we recently celebrated a new chapter in our history with the opening of our new office in Bethesda, it was time to celebrate the end of another chapter as we recognized Partner & CFO Joanne Sherwood’s retirement. During her 33-year tenure, she oversaw $5.25 billion worth of revenues (not adjusted for inflation!) and helped establish vital relationships among our Surety, Banking, Insurance, and Auditing partners.
Commitment to Financial Excellence
Joanne joined CWC in 1992 as an AP Clerk. Her work ethic and financial expertise were quickly recognized, as she was promoted to Project Accountant that same year. She soon became Controller in 1995 while also working towards a Business Management degree from the University of Maryland Global Campus. After completing her degree, she sat for the CPA exam, which she passed on her first try (a feat approximately only 20% of applicants accomplish!) Following her CPA license & certification, she was officially named CFO in 2002 and later became an equity partner in 2019.
Joanne was active in a number of professional organizations, including the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), the Maryland Society of Accountants (MSA), and she serves on the Board of Directors for the Construction Financial Management Association of Greater Washington (CFMA).
A Fond Farewell
A lifelong Maryland resident, Joanne has lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for the past 45 years. Throughout her time at CWC, it was estimated that she had driven over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge nearly 11,000 times commuting to and from work!
Managing Principal & Chief Strategy Officer Lynn Stith Bennett commended Joanne on her excellent career: "Joanne has been an invaluable member of our team for the past 33 years, playing a pivotal role in establishing our reputation for accuracy and reliability in finance and accounting. Her dedication and expertise have left a lasting impact on our organization. Joanne, we extend our deepest gratitude for your contributions and congratulate you on this remarkable milestone!"
