CWC’s Women in Construction Meet Georgetown Visitation’s STEM Club
CWC is currently demolishing & renovating the Fisher Gymnasium entrance, existing lobby, and lounge interior space
Coakley & Williams Construction (CWC) is providing construction services at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School, a private Roman Catholic college-preparatory school for girls located in the historic Washington, D.C. neighborhood of Georgetown. We are currently demolishing and renovating the Fisher Gymnasium entrance, existing lobby, and lounge interior space. Since the school has a passionate Building, Engineering, Design & Architecture Club (BEDA) for future STEM majors, CWC Senior Project Manager, Barb Price, and Project Manager, Adriana Amaya Perdomo, seized the opportunity to lead a construction seminar for the students. Adriana led the meeting and expressed, “I am very honored and excited to have had the opportunity to host a construction seminar for the students at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School and give them an inside glimpse of the construction process and showcase the importance of teamwork and communication. Also, they learned how construction and the overall design process can impact the world we live in socially and environmentally. Moreover, allowing these future STEM professionals to embrace their female role in these various industries.”
The young STEM women toured the project site and were introduced to topics such as design intent, preconstruction bidding, construction materials & phasing, opportunities for women in construction, and then concluded with a team-building activity.
The Madeira School recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new STEAM Academic Center, a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary building that houses a Robotics Lab, Makers Space, and much more.
