The newly renovated Center for Landscape Architecture, the headquarters of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), recently received the Award of Excellence for Best Sustainable Project from NAIOP DC|MD. Coakley & Williams Construction partnered with Gensler Architects to deliver this fully renovated 6,875 SF headquarters in the heart of the Chinatown neighborhood in Washington, DC. Setting the precedent for sustainability and wellbeing, ASLA’s headquarters in Washington, DC is LEED Platinum and WELL Silver certified.

About The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Headquarters

Features include a new storefront, reception, conference, and event space on the lobby level, open staircases, new offices, a kitchenette, conference rooms, and a modernized MEP system. ASLA’s headquarters earned LEED Platinum certification through USGBC and is WELL certified through the International WELL Building Institutes WELL standard.

The innovative features include:

  • Skylight and an open connecting staircase which allows light to filter from the roof to ground floor

  • Blue lighting that illuminates work spaces from overhead at a 45 degree angle, matching the natural progression of the morning sun normalizing staff members circadian rhythms.

  • Green roof containing native plants

  • Irrigation system set up to collect rainwater in a below ground cistern. This water is used to maintain the 3 garden spaces.

  • WELL features for employee work spaces

This full renovation better reflects the mission and values of ASLA and provides a home for them for decades to come.

A night to celebrate

The 16th Annual NAIOP DC|MD Awards of Excellence Gala was held in October at the newly renovated Fairmont Hotel in DC. The event brought together developers, architects, general contractors, designers and more from the commercial real estate community. Over 30 projects were named as winners, honoring more than a hundred companies for their work.

Coakley & Williams Construction is a Gold Sponsor of NAIOP DC|MD. Director of Marketing & Communications, Lisa Schlossberg, serves as Co-Chair of the chapter’s Awards Committee and the company was the Centerpiece Sponsor of the Gala.
