Smothers Elementary School is located east of the Anacostia River in Washington, DC, and was originally built in three phases during the 1920s and 30s. In a joint venture with Chiaramonte Construction Company, we completed a full modernization of the existing 3-story elementary school. We expanded the building from 43,400sf to over 66,000sf and brought it up to DCPS educational specifications, including the latest applicable building codes, ADA accessibility, and fire life safety systems. The project was delivered at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year.
This modernization allows Smothers Elementary to continue its mission of helping students reach their full potential and become their best selves through rigorous and exciting learning experiences provided in a safe and nurturing environment, enabling them to have choices and opportunities in life.
