The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association that publishes guidelines which are used in highway design and construction throughout the United States. They relocated their corporate headquarters to the 10th floor at 555 12th St NW.
Coakley & Williams Construction was selected as the General Contractor for the interior buildout of their new space. The scope of work included demolition, concrete, carpentry, millwork, doors & framing, glass & glazing, drywall, ceiling, carpet, stonework, HVAC, plumbing & electrical.
Through the glass entrance doors, the reception area features a custom millwork desk and bookshelf which is unique in design and material assembly. Built into the bookshelf is the first ceiling element which connects the reception area to the adjacent corridor where the custom millwork ceiling elements are prominently displayed. FOX Architect’s design reflects geometrical lines throughout the office to represent the flow of traffic and highway patterns. The office also includes large conference rooms, one with an operable glass partitions which allow the space to be fully open when required for larger gatherings and events. The office workspace area is made up of glass front personal offices with sliding glass and walnut doors, open office areas, and huddle rooms.
