CWC Breaks Ground on Madeira’s New STEAM Building
Full STEAM Ahead On New Madeira School Construction
The Madeira School in McLean, VA recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Academic Center, a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary building that will house a Robotics Lab, Makers Space, Ceramics, Physics, Digital Arts, a Dark Room, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, and a large flex space meant for large gatherings.
The ceremony was attended by students of the school, faculty & staff, alumni, and project partners. Madeira’s head of school, Gretchen Warner, spoke excitedly about the project: “This incredible new space will set the stage for Madeira graduates to provide leadership in fields that exist today and in those that have not yet been created.”
Engineering the Future
Coakley & Williams Construction (CWC) will be working alongside Centerbrook (Architect) and Fortis (Owner’s Rep) on the 35,000 sf building. CWC was selected as the general contractor shortly after completing an interior renovation for one of the schoolhouse buildings on campus. The unique project will be constructed using the design-build delivery method.
The Madeira School, founded in 1906 by Lucy Madeira Wing, is a private all-girls school located in McLean, VA. Its 376-acre campus sits just 12 miles from Washington DC and serves grades 9 through 12.
