Location: Washington, DC

Steeped in history and thoughtfully restored for the future, Georgetown University's Alumni House reflects the careful balance between historic preservation and modern functionality. Coakley & Williams Construction completed an extensive renovation of the university's 18th century Alumni House, transforming five interconnected townhouse units into a vibrant destination for alumni while preserving the architectural character that makes the building unique.
The restored facility includes a technology center, library, gallery, winter garden, administrative offices, and flexible gathering spaces designed to host lectures, receptions, and alumni events. Behind the historic façade, the project introduced entirely new building infrastructure, including modern MEP systems, while extensive underpinning, excavation, selective demolition, and structural improvements ensured the long-term integrity of the building.
Working within the constraints of a historic campus required meticulous planning, craftsmanship, and coordination. Every phase of construction respected the building's historic significance while delivering the performance, accessibility, and technology expected of a contemporary university facility. The result is a space that honors Georgetown's legacy while supporting the needs of its alumni community for generations to come.
