Finding Flavor at PGCC Culinary Arts Center

Coakley & Williams Construction employees toured the newly completed Culinary Arts Center at Prince George's Community College in an initiative to celebrate and share their hard work with one another.

The tour of the 21,000 sf state of the art facility was led by Ed Whitfield, better known as “Dr. Chef” by his students and those in the community.  This state of the art building will adequately prepare students for the hospitality industry by providing them with the opportunity to work in a realistic and hands-on professional setting.

Features of this exciting project include:

  • "Front of house” and “back of house” areas
  • Commercial instructional kitchens with cutting edge equipment
  • Innovative sanitation room assuring cleanliness and minimal food waste
  • Spacious pastry kitchen
  • Instructional home kitchen classroom
  • Hands-on contemporary mixology and beverage management room
  • Meeting spaces, dining room, classrooms, offices, and outdoor grills
  • Sustainable features include outdoor herb gardens and an indoor living plant wall

PGCC stressed the importance of instilling sustainable and healthy lifestyles for its students and our project team helped make that vision a reality.  We are proud to have partnered with PGCC and the sustainable architecture firm, Grimm + Parker, on this spectacular project.  We are excited to see this program thrive and produce the future of hospitality in the D.C. Metropolitan area.
